I have seen plenty of post that say to run the boat at WOT. I have a 115 on an aluminum 19' Crestliner that planes easily at 1/2 throttle. I like to run it at 3/4 Throttle when cruising out to the fishing site. This surly cant hurt the motor can it?

The engines can handle WOT all day long. However, can your wallet?

The difference in fuel economy between WOT and 3/4 is substantial.

Running at 1/2 to 3/4 will not hurt your engine at all as long as your engine is capable of hitting its rated WOT RPM when you do open it up.

Whoever is advising you to run your motor at WOT all the time is giving you bad advice. Go ahead and run it at lower power levels all you want. I run my motor at about 3/4 power for cruise because the boat goes fast enough to suit me at that setting, and I get much better fuel economy.

As stated above, your motor should be capable of reaching the recommended WOT RPM range. Being capable does not mean to run it that way.
