I hope to fine something like that when I retire. I'd have to own the land where she'd be berthed though.
I wonder what the engine room looks like.

Thats a neat looking boat for sure. Does it run? 14K sounds pretty cheap.

Great find. I would have it surveyed just to find the real issues that are making the owners sell it for that cheap.

Its a gorgeous old boat and would make a wonderful project for someone with alot of time, skills and money.

The one thing about these boats that people sometimes don't understand, however, is that they can be money pits. Given the condition of the paint in many of the photos, its likely that the boat has alot of rot. If its been a Florida boat for some time, and hasn't had a bottom job about once a year, its also likely that worms have chewed the hull up - they are pretty much the aquatic equivalent of termites.

I still think its a cool boat, though. "They" just don't build boats with classic lines like this any more! Wood boats also make great liveaboards, because they don't "sweat" as much as aluminum or glass hulls.

Ah, but if I only had a spare hundred grand kicking around! I'd buy that boat in a heartbeat and return it to its rightful status as a lady of the seas!

The age and condition are driving the price lower. From the ad, it sounds like the engines are okay. If I were actually in the market for such a craft, I'd offer $10k and bet that the owner would sell. The boat would be neat for my 67 y.o. cousin. He's ex-Navy and appreciates a fine vessel. And he wouldn't have to do a full restore either... just make it functional.

Here's the craigslist ad: http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/boa/1236707322.html

And here's a pic of the boat for those who didn't click the link in my first post. Way cool!

This old wooden hull boat is a prime candidate for C-Flex.

Basically, C-Flex is like bed-liner sprayed over top of Dupont 5200 sealer.

Well, I looked that stuff up and personally wouldn't bother. I'd just clean up the boat, give her a fresh coat of paint and enjoy.

There's no way to recoup the cost of a major restoration and the boat would continue to depreciate even after it was all done. Clean, dry and serviceable works just fine.
