hi:
i would like someone to give me advice on repowering a 1979 answer supreme 21 cuddy cabin that weights 2,100 dry weight. i would like to know if a mariner 150 efi would do the job on this boat and would have a good performance . i would like to know if someone can help me ,how many miles per hour could that outboard achieve on this boat ? i will apreciate your help , thanks

Really hard to give you MPH on this boat without lots more information. Photos would be helpful.

I would say the 150 would be adequate, but possibly on the low-end of what is acceptable power for that boat. If propped correctly and set up where it needs to be, the motor will plane the boat out nicely.​

i don't beleive you will be happy. if the boat is rated for the 235, and you are repowering with only 67% of that power, you are definately on the bottom end of the performance scale. the normal minimum rule of thumb is 70% of rated hp. also that engine is going to have to be propped down, to maintain rpms, and keep from lugging the engine.

I am jealous that you folks in the European markets still can get Mariner outboards. I was sad when they pulled Mariner from the US market.

If it is a Mariner Verado that you are looking at, it should provide ok performance. As previously stated, it will take some trial and error to get it propped to maximum RPM, and keep in mind that your boat will never be a speed demon. This is probably the minimum hp that you can get away with on this boat.
