Would it be OK to ask an opinion on how much is this worth?

This is a 1978 motor with all controls and wiring, run great. I would like to know about how much a motor like this should sell for.

Its worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. A lot depends really on where you are, and for that matter who's looking for one when you are selling it. I have seen used engine prices all over the place for the same engines in generally same conditions. Check out some of the classifieds, the big auction site, etc. Then start a little higher than what you want out of it.

Also, you'll get top price if you have the outboard on a boat and can demonstrate it to a potential buyer. That's been proven time and time again.

it looks like it is in great condition. the 35 is a hard sell though. too small for a good water sports motor, too big for a lot of fishing boats. thus you have a limited market. in you ad you need to post the compression numbers, model #. Ebay and Craiglist are good places to advertise, and you need to agree to put it on a pallet, for shipping, and delivering to a local terminal. pick up onlys make for a harder sell.

it looks clean, and with all controls, i'm estimating, $400-$800.

I think TD is about right and the amount within that range would depend on overall condition. If everything works and it doesn't need things like new ignition parts, carb, fuel pump or water pump rebuild, gear box sealing, etc., you can expect to get something on the upper end of the price scale. If there are any problems at all, the price will drop quickly because the cost of service/repair are quite high in comparison to the value of the motor.

Shoot photos or a video of it running in a drum or open water with water flow details, etc.

The more detail photos the better. A little history of the motor if you know it, will help.

Any service you have done in the last several years should also be listed.

I would mention it is perfect for inflatables.

P.S. Don't guarantee it! See “Sold a boat and it busted”.
