Would it work?

I'm in the process of painting my 1964 MFG and I was wondering if I could use ratchet straps from the garage truss to the loops on the front and back of boat to lift a few inches off trailer. Boat is 16' and motor is removed. Would my garage support this? I assume it will. It's just a few years old.

If you have some heavy duty straps yes it will work. But by all means if they are Wal-Mart specials then dont even try it. You will regret it.

I would get some 2x4 or 4x4s and use them as support legs, just past the width of the boat just to be on the safe side!!
you don't want to pull down the roof of the garage

Two issues......

Make sure you spread the laod across the beams and you are not pulling on one beam in the cieling of the garage........

Considering the year of the boat I would rather see you use a sling under the hull...... I would not have faith in lifting from the 45 year old hooks.

I was planning on spreading the load, but I think your second suggestion is a good idea too, thanks.
