or you could lay a wire mesh on the floor of the boat, wired up to 110 volts, bet the cats would learn real fast...

live trap, animal control

if no tags, no come back. If tags, owner gets fined (check local ordinance...)

Re: would moth balls keep a cat out of my boat?

Well looks like I need to bring this thread back to life. I have a cat in boat problem. I pulled my cover off last weekend to get my boat ready for this year and low and behold. There is a dead blue bird and a cat **** puddle in the back of my boat. I cleaned it all up and washed my boat. Today I serviced my engine and found more feet prints again. I guess I am gonna try the moth balls first.

Been there done that. Might take a little diligence on your part, but I guarantee it'll work.

Go to a sporting goods store and buy a sling shot 1/2" with steel ball bearings. Practice a little bit so you can at least hit a pie plate at 15 yards....not too hard to do that.

Wait till you see the cat in the vicinity of the boat and all you have to do is hit her once with 1 ball and she won't be back on your property ever again.

Ok, for pita people, it'll sting but the cat won't die. In my case I did this AFTER I told the owner that if I saw the cat again I'd do it....and I did!

Depends what kind of slingshot... 1/2 steel ball with a decent slingshot will easily kill a small animal, and is more than powerful enough to drop a big dog.

this is an easy one to do though and won't kill the cat, just really **** it off. 6 inch strips of clear packing tape, sticky side up. The cat will step in it, and end up with it all over its paws and fur. The owner probably will end up having to cut hair to get the tape out, but you can be assured the cat will NEVER set foot where it found the tape. (taught my own cat to stay off counters this way, with scotch tape so it wasn't bad to get out.)

had a neighborhood dog that the owners let run at 5:30 every morning to leave a big steaming elephant pile in my yard. I painted the dog bright orange for them, with a full auto (13 rounds/second) paintball gun. Dog didn't come back!

Re: would moth balls keep a cat out of my boat?

I've never heard of mothballs working on a cat. I have the same problem, neighbors cat sleeping in my boat. I put a cover on the boat, hope that works. If it sprays in there, god only knows what I'll do. A cat ruined the cabin in my last boat. I cleaned and cleaned, when it gets to be 100 outside in the summer- theres almost nothing you can do to stop that smell. I never did get the smell out, ended up selling the boat. Damn cats!

I have a low power bb gun here on the work bench, maybe its time to **** off the cat so it quits coming around.;)

I have a couple of live traps set up. The cats didn't mess with the boat much, but they were climbing on our newly painted vehicles. I can live with paw prints, but claw marks from unsuccessful attempts was just too much.

Animal control knows me on a first name basis. They've picked up a couple of dozen cats from our place.

I use Montain Lion Scat, for cats, dogs, racoons and deer. Best thing since sliced bread in my opinion. You can get it at most Animal Control Centers. The only dog it doesn't bother is the neighbors rhodesion ridgeback but they're bread for hunting lions so that's understandable and when he's around there's not a cat in sight anyway.

Have you tried a 22-250? I like the .17 Remington with 20gr dogtown bullets. I'm pushing them a little over 4300FPS.

If you know who's cat it is, give them one stern warning. After that when kitty goes "missing", just shrug your shoulders and give an " IdunnO...' response when they ask if you've seen it. Meanwhile, completely line your boat with plastic dropcloth and insert bear trap right by the cat's entry point. The plastic will keep the splatter off your boat.

I put a "Post It" on the lost cat notices that show up on the community mailbox.
It has the address and phone number for Animal Control.

Get your animal back for the cost of registration, and spay or neutering.

Mothballs...no.

Mothra...yes!

Only kidding! I just don't like cats....

There is a powder that keeps dogs, and cats, out of your garden. You might want to check your local Home Depot...that is where I got mine!

In the meantime...check all of the hiding spots in your rig. There are some pretty evil cats out there...with some pretty evil plans!

Mix anti-freeze into a can of catfood.

dude... killing someone's pet with a gun is one thing, poisoning it to a slow painful death is another.

That's quite true. Especially since its not the cat's fault. Its the owners that need to be puinished. Now, how to do that legally is the real issue!

Cat's unlike dogs are a lot harder to control, you can't put up a fence for a cat, etc. There are lots of non-harmful ways to keep a cat away and just because a neighbor's cat is in your yard doesn't mean it is the stray that is getting into boat. There are repellents you can use, i also hear citrus is a good way to keep cats away. Granted I let my cat roam around and he has left some presents in other peoples yards, though he does a good job at keeping the mice, rabbits, and snakes at bay. I would rather have some poo, which can help your garden than have a rabbit devastate it. My cat also keeps those darn birds at bay that like to stain my deck white.

Keep in mind that animals will go to a place they want to, if you make some where else better or make it more hostile than the alternative, then that is the best way.

My cat nor any other cat has got into my boat. A stray will more likely find a home in your boat as a house cat would prefer the warmth of it's owners home.
