Budget is tight this Christmas and need to buy toys or better for the grand-kids.

Do you think I would be in trouble with the rest of the family if I bought them boat parts and when they wonder what to do with them, I offer help on installing them on my boat?

I think I know some one that will be seeing coal in his stocking. A minor price to pay for ingenuity.

A new distributor kit for the oldest Grandson is in order. He's been good all year.

mzahn, I would love to receive boat parts for Christmas. The parts would more than likely end up on my boat and not your's though. I'm kind of old but available for adoption though. lol

I think it gets unethical when you buy them polish and a buffer wheel. As long as the gift is mechanical or navigational in nature, I see nothing wrong with it.

Impellers fit nicely into stockings. Heck, what looks better all wrapped up than a new GPS Chartplotter?

Side note: Great Christmas gift idea for boaters (well, those in tidal waters): Tide clock.

I think its a great idea. When there standing next to you helping to install their new "gifts", what quality time and memmories they will have. Valueable mechanicable skills being learned too! Plus everytime they go out with you they will be using the gifts, it won`t be forgotten or broken in the back of there closet!

It could "backfire" if they refuse your offer to help them install it on your boat & you end up with an impeller inside your #2 cylinder, a few of the "extra" screws laying in your bilge or a prop nut not torqued.

Well, I say go for it. I'm considering something along the same lines for our annual gift exchange at work. I have a leftover ignition coil in good working order, I'm sure someone could appreciate that.

Re: Would this be ethical?

I think that is a cool idea albeit if the grand kids are young they may not like it. I was stuck this year buying myself new boat seats and carpet. I would give anything to get a gift that was for my boat.
After all it's the thought that counts anyway :)

Does your boat have a heater and a bed? I'd think you'd be a livin' there after Christmas. Alone!

Its it ethical? Sure. Will they appreciate it? Probably not. Will it add to their fun at Christmas, Not at all. If you're short of cash, make them something or buy them a class on safe boating.

Re: Would this be ethical?

My question is this. After they put their "Gift" parts on "your" boat does that now make them part owners?
