Would this be worth getting for a pontoon?

Hi everybody, I just wanted to get some opinions on this. I saw this hydrofoil stabilizer in the latest basspro catalog. I have a 24ft pontoon w/ a 75 hp yamaha engine. Would this stabilizer be worth getting? Do they really save on gas AND improve speed?

All opinions are appreciated.

Oh ya... here is the link to the thing I'm talking about:

Thanks,

Jeremy

I don't like them. Many of them cause more issues than they cure.

They are a Band Aid for other set up issues.

i feel mt is right ! i'v tried this foil yrs. ago,and found that it's like putting a bandaid on something that needs stitches--if your trying to stable things i would suggest getting small trim tabs for each side of boat--a pontoon boat is light so it doesn't take much (8 to 10")--just get the style that you can adjust with a wrench--motor it around and adjust them to your liking. just my thoughts-

What kinds of things can they cause? There is nothing wrong with my pontoon at all... I just saw an ad for these in the latest BassPro catalog and got curious. If it will give more speed (even if it's just a little) and better fuel efficiency (even if it's just a little here too) I would consider them. I don't really have any issues with stability problems or anything.

I am rather new to this stuff so all information is greatly appreciated.

I really do appreciate all opinions and suggestions

Re: Would this be worth getting for a pontoon?

My father dropped one on his. Has a 70hp on it and claims it does what it says it will. same size as yours (24'), and his has no known issues. Im thinking about the XP III for mine. A little more price on it, but Im willing to give it a shot. Mine runs fine and comfortably, but if I can get a little more boost out of my 50hp, Im all for it. kids love tubes, even if they dont go very fast. Ive tried a number of props to find the best ride, now im wondering if i can amp it up a little.

Im thinking along the lines of what you are saying.. just looking for a bit of a boost.

I have been looking into the pontoon water glide system too.... that looks really impressive (but very costly)... though i guess it's cheaper than a larger engine.

By far... I went into BassPro today, just to get the kids out of the house and burning energy. We found our way (or, I lead the way) to the boats and outboard section, and I found one of the new Merc 90hp o/b. I loved it. 5yr warranty, this, that, wonderful looking motor. And you too could own one for the nominal fee of just under $5,800. I almost lost my lunch at that point.

I've had a similar experience. I think that we are going to purchase the pontoon water glide system... hopefully anyway
