Props don't suit engines, S1M, they suit complete rigs.

Check out prop selection in FAQ.

Good luck. :)

Re: Would this prop suit my engine?

that is exactly the same prop( size wise) as on my 76 115 I6.

my boat is a 16'5" center console, weighing 650pounds empty, but with motor and gear and people its about1500

i can say my boat hauls MAJOR A$$. im too scared to go WOT, yet. because the boat planes at very minimal engine speeds.

21p prop is god for a lighter boat. most guys have a 17p.....

what type of boat is a fletcher GTO?

m ikey

Re: Would this prop suit my engine?

Thats almost the same. Im certain that my boat is bigger. I believe its 17ft long. There was several variations of the GTO. For example my boat doesn't have the side rails you see on the above.

Were putting a new floor into it and then an interior so its a big project. First I need to get the engine running.

Were going to put 2 back to back style seats in the front and a bench at the rear. We expect it will seat 7 people.

I want to be able to water-ski with it so dont really want to compromise the acceleration. However the chances of me trying to water-ski when there are 7 people in it...is...er, highly unlikely.

Be nice to still be able to plane with it loaded though. What do you guys think, to get the prop or not get the prop?

You may start here, but Im thinking a 19P Or maybe even a 17P for skiing. I really think the 21 may be too much prop for your application. You can allways resell it though.

Hey welcome aboard mate.
Ask the boys at Lake Windermere when the 10MPH speed limit comes into force. There will be a whole bunch of props and donkeys going cheap.

Regards all...Keith B...In Sunny Blackpool. (Scotlands Second Home).. I was looking for a bagpiping gremlin but he wasn't there..just being cheeky all my pals are from Toryglen but they can,t help that..

Re: Would this prop suit my engine?

Thanks for that advice guys, I think i'll hold off for a different pitch. I recon you might be right about the pitch for Skiing LubeDude.

Hey Keithy, are they really imposing a speed limit at Windermere? God, I hope they never do that on the bonny banks! Whats a donkey? I know its like a small horse gone wrong but I think you are using a different context here.

P.S. Toryglen has its nice areas...ahem ahem

I'm from Erskine, do you know it?

Stan

Re: Would this prop suit my engine?

justa note. i have same motor as you and same prop you are speeking of here. i have a hole shot that will knock you out of your seats, wheather your ready or not. ungodly quick, even with the 21p prop

i drilled 3 holes in prop, effectively porting it , allowing controlled ventilation at lower speeds, while maintaining full control of mid and high speeds.

its like having the hole shot of a 17p with the top end of a 21p

if you OR ANYBODY ELSE IS INTERESTED or wants the official service bulletin from OMC describing how and where to put the holes, email me, i would post it, b ut its copyrighted, and im not gonna post copyrighted material

m ikey

Re: Would this prop suit my engine?

Stan,

The Laser II prop (the one you bought) has already got the vents. They allow the engine to accelerate without much load on, then the vents close (dynamically) and the prop bites and you take off like a Polaris missile!

The 'Flow torque II' hub is just the name Mercury use for the hub of the prop. It allows the prop to 'slip' if a hard and immovable object is struck. Don't go testing it out! :D

Chris..............

Re: Would this prop suit my engine?

Chris, are you really sure that this wont fit my engine. Im gutted!

Maybe its a sign, maybe the pitch was too high. I hear that these engines much prefer to rev high.

Are four blade props better, i understand that you get less vibration from a 4 blader but what are the dissadvantages.

I was thinking on a 3 or 4 blade 19 pitch.

Re: Would this prop suit my engine?

Stan,

I'm not talking about the pitch. The prop hub (the central part the blades are attached to) is too big. It won't fit correctly against the gearcase. The shaft is the same so it'll slide onto it, but the hub is bigger than your gearhousing.

As for a 'sign'? I don't believe in that sort of crap. It would only be a sign of inexperience, something we've all had.

Chris...........

Re: Would this prop suit my engine?

Thanks for the mail Chris, that will come in very handy! I know you were talking about the gearcase and i dont believe in signs either. I didn't actually think it was devine intervention or anything lol :eek:p

I do however recon a 19 pitch would be better suited to my set up as there were concerns over the 21 putting to much load on her.

What im unsure of is whether to get a 3 or a 4 blader and what difference would i expect from either one.

Stan........

Re: Would this prop suit my engine?

The advantages of a 3 blade are that they're more efficent. The advantages of a 4 blade are that they're smoother. I also find that the 4 blade don't 'let go' when it gets a bit of air in it or seaweed on it, but I have lost about 3 knots at the top end.

Mercury have a prop selector on line that works really well. I'll get back with a web address when I find it again.

Chris..........

Re: Would this prop suit my engine?

Thanks Chris! When you say more efficient do you mean in terms of fuel economy? I've been told by the guys at the marina i'll have better acceleration but less top end as the extra blade generates more drag.

Is it true that the 4 blader give more bite in corners?

I was thinking about a Mercury Trophy Plus prop.

Stan
