Re: Would you buy a former rental car?

I remember back in the 60's renting cars to go drag racing with. Glad or hope they don't do that very often today. I do remember watching that Jacka** movie of them renting a car for a demo derby :D I LMAO watching that

Back in the day..................Hertz (I believe it was) had cars they marketed as Rent-A-Racer, Ford Mustangs as I recall. Painted in the Hertz black and gold color scheme.

Re: Would you buy a former rental car?

In a previous life, I was a District Manager with one of the major rental companies (the one known for trying harder). Part of my job involved determining which cars went to the auto auction and which ones went to my retail lot. If a car had been in an accident and had any frame/suspension damage or any major mechanical problems (e.g. internal engine work) the car would automatically go to the auction. Of the remainder, I would try to keep the lowest-mileage cars with the best interior & exterior for my retail lot. The complete service record/rental history was always available on my retail cars, and if someone bought an auction car from a dealer and discovered that it was previously one of my cars, I would provide them with the records upon request.

I wouldn't hesitate a nanosecond to buy a rental car for the major's retail lot...not quite so confident in the auction cars.:)

Have sold literally hundreds of them, and owned a few personally. YES, I would buy one. In fact, I would rather buy a rental car than a new car (provided that it was one of the manufacturers buy-back program cars). If you work it right you can get a current year, or one year old vehicle with less than 20,000 miles on it for about 1/2 the price of a new one.

33K miles is a lot for a rental company. They usually turn them around before 12K. Past that, they have no choice but to auction them off.
One thing about rental cars...each and every mile is abusive.

Depends on the renters really. Very difficult here to rent a car if you are under 25 years old. With that in mind the odds are really in your favour. If not then having the balance of the manufacturers warranty helps a lot.

Well, by Gorry, back in, lemme see now, had to be '63 or '64, wait, maybe it was '71, but, anyway, bought me a rental mule, lemme tell ya, now, that was about the orneriest mule I ever owned, had it for two years, tried to sell it the whole time, but every time somebody would show up to look at it, it would kick, or bite, or just fall right over and play dead. Well, I just got right sick of going through all the aggravation, so I ate the gosh-darned thing, and ya know what? Well, them Apache Indians wuz right, ain't no better eatin' than mule. So, in closing, let me say, YES, I would buy another rental mule, I just wouldn't keep it around so long next time.

Would I-YES!

Why? Rental companies (at least the majors) keep very detailed service histories. They have to for warranty and liability reasons.

Most retail owners DO NOT.

I DO NOT drive a rental any different than my own vehicle. I don't tear up others peoples equipment.

A blazer sounds like a leased vehicle to a corporate user, one year and 32k miles, could be a utility use, of some sort, somewhere not necessarily where you live either.
Second owner ,Female, that's just the registered owner, not the driver, the drunk hubby, or wild kid, or who ever.
A calvialer (had one) is a 100k car and its junk, a yukon is a 300k car and keeps on going, you get what u pay for.
A blazer is not a typical airport rental CEO or family at Disney rents, I would pass it by. Go to Enterprise and by a rental return direct from them.
