Would you buy a rebuilt Tower of Power?

Hi all,

I need to re-power a 17' deep v glass boat for freshwater and saltwater use. The boat is rated for 105hp. I'm looking at a 1989 Mariner 115hp Tower of Power professionally rebuilt from a local marine shop for $2500 including controls.

Is this the right outboard for me? I want to keep costs down as the boat is pretty old but solid. I'm not sure how this outboard will last or match with my boat.

to what extent was the rebuild?
is there a warranty? for how long?
is this price installed? if not how much more?
exactly what kind of boat?

long and short of it,,if there is warranty for at least 90 days, I would give it a go. Short dollars for the motor,,,your boat depending on the weight should fly.

forgot to mention insurance,,not a large upgrade over the capacity plate,,just verify w/your insurer if you carry a policy

That's what I'm asking for my 91 100 Mariner 4 cylinder because that's the best it will ever bring. I put all new electronics on mine but I'll never add it all up and get my money back.

Your rebuild would have included the basics only. Hone cylinders, re-ring, gaskets, maybe reeds, carb and fuel pump rebuild, link and sync, filters and hoses. There wouldn't be much left for labor or a reasonable profit if there was anything more done to it.

On the bright side, that might be all it needed. Ask if the upper and lower mains were replaced. FYI, I'm pretty sure it's identical to the Merc of the same year.
