Would you buy a used 1st gen Yamaha 4 stroke 50hp?

Hi all,

I'm looking at a '99 Yamaha 50hp 4 stroke. This is the first gen outboard and I've heard it was troublesome. It is $2500. I can get a second gen 50hp for $3500.

Is there a big difference between the 1st and 2nd gen of these outboards, enough to spend more money on the 2nd?

Any help appreciated.

i have a 1999 40hp yamaha and have had no problems what so ever i know ur looking at the 50hp but the motors are close.
