Would you buy a used wake board as your first one? I see several on CL and do not want to spend alot of money to give this sport a try. Any pros or cons to buying new vs used.

Thanks for the link Brad. I will not pay over price for a used wake board. I seen entry boards at Dicks Sporting Goods for $200. I might go this route. Also If I'm interested in a used wake board, do I try it on before purchasing it. What if the seller has nasty groody feet and used the board. Blaa

Yes, buy used, off craigslist.

I started wakeboarding with a friend who had a CWB and Liquid Force board. I was progressing nicely for an old man on his CWB board.

When I bought my boat I picked up a Hydroslide brand board (I love my hydroslide brand kneeboards). However, I stopped progressing.

I found a used Liquid Force Fish on craigslist for $100 from a guy who sold his boat (baby on the way situation). I started progressing again.

I think the board does matter.

And ...... I am a cheapskate!

I buy used all the time. Granted the "used" condition looks brand new. You don't want something that looks like it has been abused on ramps or rails or something. I was lucky and got a used CWB set up with CT bindings for $225 including shipping that looked as if it were never riden.

No, I did not try it. The key is getting one big enough for your largest rider. Also, when you see them listed, take the model name and google it. You want something intermediate, not expert. You want something forgiving enough for beginners.

You can also look for closeout models, thats what I did 2 months ago. I got a $655 byerly monarch with verdict boots (msrp) for 300 bucks.

I think of water sports gear as sort of fluid.... I have always tried to buy used stuff or close outs, factory blems. Trying multiple options. Keep the good, resell what doesn't work. Always on the lookout for a deal.

You can get better deals than that at Dicks - we bought our CWB Pure with torq bindings there on sale for under $200 and it is far from entry level.
