Would you consider this engine lugging

1989 50 hp Johnson on 20 ft Lowe pontoon boat. Runs between 4200 and 4600 depending on load. I don't have the prop numbers because its at the lake. I don't care about speed at all as I mostly troll, but I don't want to hurt this engine by lugging it. If it is lugging, I'll get the numbers and post them.

Thats lugging it severly if its running properly. 5800 is what your target should be. Now, if something is wrong, that may be why its so far off.

Also, What kind of speed at WOT are you getting? That will tell alot, too....If you're hitting 16-18 MPH, then I would say the Tach would be off...If 10 MPH, you have a problem...

Definitely...Make sure it's set on the "6" pole setting on the back...
