I got around to pulling the 1984 70hp evinrude out of the woods at my grandpa's place and got it up to my house.
I built a stand for it and as I was hoisting it upright, I noticed a steady stream of "powder" coming from the engine. looked closer and it was coming from a hole in the block at the #2 rod.
I do have the paperwork for this engine so, at worst, I'd need to find either a powerhead or piece one together off ebay. at best, I'd just weld the block up and find a crank and a single rod off ebay.
anyway, I think in running condition the engine would be worth around $1500 or so, right?
Its got a stainless prop and everything else looks good but searching on ebay at completed auctions makes me think the economy has people not really buying used parts so it really makes me wonder how I'd make out better? parting it, or fixing it?
one thing I know that works (just looks bad) is the tilt/trim setup as I had to hook it to a battery to get it level so I could get it on the stand.
