This is my 5000th post.

Somewhat of a milestone in my iboats membership. Have I really spent that much time here? :D

Uuuh...I think you must be a fan of the site and love boats quite a bit. It is addictive if boats are in your blood and you enjoy like minded friends and acquaintances.

This is my 100th post, I only have 4,900 more to go to catch up with you:D

You probably hit 5000 some time ago but in the older days when posts got zapped so did the post counts.

A sincere thank you for your advice! Congratulations.

Cool, lets see; 5000 posts, member since Oct. 2003, that works out to about 2.9 posts a day. Since I am newly retired, not too big a challenge. I just gotta come up with the material :p. I've sure enjoyed my short span here. I've spent a lot of time reading many of the technical posts and remain amazed at how little I know when I have been told I know it all:D Or somethinhg like that. Good job, and I have enjoyed your posts.

Re: Wow. The big 5000.

Holy Cow! So many nice comments. I hope that I have helped some people with my advice. And I really hope I didn't give any bad advice.

One bit of "advice" that I documented continues to surprise me... Its that little piece on Shareaproject.com where I used Comet cleaner and a cheap polisher to restore the shine on the badly faded gel coat on my '65 MFG. I still get the occassional email and PM from people who tried it and got great results. It really does work to restore the shine, especially when the gel has oxidized so bad it comes off as a white powder when you touch it. And I think the reason people try it is because it uses familiar and common household products Comet cleanser, and a fairly low buck polisher and auto polishing compound. And people who get these old boats cheap are more inclined to try something cheap rather than do a lot of research into all the different polishing compounds and invest $300 in a pro quality polisher.

Thats what these forums are all about; sharing info and experiences. And lots of people who join iboats are new to boating and have limited budgets and old boats and want their old boat to look good without breaking the bank.

I have to say that iboats has had a huge impact on my boating experience, and I hope my participation here has helped others as well.

I would love a link to that post. My canoe might benefit from this.
Congrats, and btw this is an excellent chance to add to your post count!:D

Congratulations Mark on your 5K. I know I read that post and have tried the comet and a scotch brite pad and I got really great results. Thanks for that tid bit.
