I've been boating for near 40 years and wrenching on anything that runs for at
least that long. Been on the "net" since
2400bps and I've never found a board as great
as this one. I just finished reading all 73 pages of the motor section and was blown
away. (Good thing I'm at work with a T-3 line). Mucho compliments to all and y'all
will be hearing from me. I'm about to put a water pump in my '73 'rude. Not much of a
job back on Kentucky Lake, but may get dicey
on a saltwater engine. Soking the bolt area's
in Coke or Pepsi eh? :D :D :D

Glad to make your aquaintence, Bob. Welcome to the forum.
Those impellers are easy, till you get to the thermostats. Never had to do it, but from what I learned here, the powerhead must be lifted to get at them. Or maybee I'm wrong.

Re: Wow

You most have read wessell's comments. Always great to hear positive responses to the board. I too am very happy with this board and the eagerness of its members to take the time out of their busy day to contribute! Welcome aboard shipmate. :)

Re: Wow

Hi Bob, I have not done much work on an "old salty" I can tell you about the the one salt motor I had, I paid a mechanic to to re-seal the lower unit, he warned that he may have to use heat to remove the Lower Unit section bolts, as a result, he said there may be some paint blistering.

I didn't watch him do the work, but there was some paint discoloration around the bolts, I remember pleading to him that there must be another way! Nope! But he did say that he would only use it if absolutley nesessary.

This has been my experience, so hopefully I can learn another way through your question, Just remember, if you use heat, that aluminum has a low melting point, and there is no warning, as it seemingly disappears!
