Wrapped up the ol' MFG for the winter.

I stored the MFG for the winter today. The permanent gas tank (new plastic tank) holds 14 gallons and was nearly full from the last time we used it in late July. I decided to siphon out all the gas into gas cans and a tractor. I know some people don't store gas tanks empty because of the fear of condensation. I decided to empty the tank for these reasons:

1) The gas will be 11 months old before I get to use it next June. I prefer to boat with fresh gas.

2) I have never seen water show up in any of my gas cans that sit all winter in an unheated garage.

3) Even if there IS some water condensing out of damp winter air, there is a water separator in the fuel line to remove it. The water separator is clear plastic, and I have yet to see even 1 drop of water show up, yet it sits for weeks on end with half or nearly empty tank all spring and summer.

So, thats why I siphoned the tank empty. Just thought I'd share.

Anyone else do this?

if ya aint got no water in yer water/fuel seperator. sounds like yer good to go to me......

personally, i have a metal fuel tank. i suppose its steel or the likes. at least the original tank that came with it. i stabill mine + totally full. been runnin stabill for a few weeks now and top it off after ea. use. 5 hrs today, 7 gals. i been fighting the rustys since i got the aristocraft. serveal fuel filters later. its lookin pretty good. i don't have a water, fuel seperator either. keeps my combustion chambers shiney....... maybe...............

Hi PDQ!

I have a Turning Point 12.25" x 15* Cupped prop on there. RPM's max out at 5000 and the top speed (unloaded) under ideal conditions was 30mph. With load it does a consistant 27 mph.

Still have the old MFG, I see. Is it holding up well?

Regards,

Mark.

Yes Mark I'm still working hard on her . Instuments , wiring , ply floor , and paint stripping this year . Then I got a project 1980 50hp , hence the prop question. it came with a 12.25x 17 .Maybe too big?? BTW my '63 40hp was getting me to 25 (by speedo not gps) . I think as you found out that the new 50 is probably lighter than the 40-with "all the xtras" Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, the '92 40hp is 'only' 185 lbs, compared to the 300lbs for the 67 60hp that came on it.

Your 50 is a "big twin" too, right? it should be around 185lbs too. Plus, it should really push that MFG right along. I think a 17* pitch is a bit too much, but you'll have to play around. I know with a 13* pitch, I revved the motor right into the RPM cutoff range!!!!

Good luck. Keep working on her. I'm not ready to sell mine yet, I figure I hang onto it or give it to my sister where it will stay in the family.

yes ,it is a two cyl . I Like the amount of prop options i have now ! Between the increase in prop dia and the increase in blade face size I figgured my thrust will jump noticeably . I've also been curious about Comprop's 4 blade composite . Have you had any feedback from users good/bad ? I'm thinking for the cost I'keep it as a spare if I wasn't impresssed
