I have a 1996 90hp Force. What would the symptons of the motor be if I didn't add enough oil to the gas? Say...a couple of ounces short on 6 to 8 gallons of gas.

Re: Wrong Oil Mix?

The symptoms would be a hot running engine, gradually losing power and getting hot enough to blow the head gasket and then seize the engine.

just add a few more ounces and be more careful next time.

2.6 ounces of oil per gallon of gas.

Too much oil will smoke a lot and eventually sieze the rings.Too little oil and you will sieze the motor. Either way you will have to pay. 1 pint to 6 Gal.Jerry

Re: Wrong Oil Mix?

50 to 1 fuel to oil ratio is only necessary for (at or near) full throttle operation. That is one of the reasons that the more expensive engine brands went to VRO oil injection. It varies (usually ) from 100 to 1 at idle to 50 to 1 at full throttle.

SO: Put your mind at ease! If your engine was already broken-in, and well run beforehand and had a base of oil in it (coating internal parts) already, you most likely would be fine. If you did not run it a full throttle for other than short periods, the engine will have suffered no harm at all. But--don't do it again!
