So i looked up on iboat for a starter and from what I got it is a Sierra International 18-5905 so I ordered one of amazon and they are to different sizes?!?! I have a Mercruiser alpha one 350 it looks like where it connects into the flywheel housing it is the same size but overall its like twice the size and the bolt holes are longer?

I cant get these pictures to load, this site never works for it, any idea why it would be over double the size? Everything I can find points to the right starter, could they have had the wrong one? Only numbers I can find on the old one are SAE-J1171 Marine

the one on the left is the re-manufactured starter full size, you removed the hi-torque one. either one works with the correct length bolts. Incorrect length bolts will only shear or break the block

standard GM starter bolts from any good auto store. the area just above the threads will be knurled . The smaller hi-torques uses a slightly different size bolt. you cannot mix them.

do you think a standard marine starting battery at 650 CCA (I believe it is) will work?

Ayuh,.... The battery requirements don't change, the smaller starters are permanent magnet motors, 'n the Big 1s are ole style powered field starters,....

Since the smaller per-mag starters came out, I quit usin' the ole style,... Too Heavy to hold in-place to get the bolts started,....

So i am trying to put the starter in, I cant get it in place like its to big but I think it is because of the debris cover by the flywheel, if I remove it will that cause a big issue?

I tried to put the starter in and it wont fit, I believe it is because of the debris plate over the flywheel, If i leave that off is it a big issue?

If you were able to remove the old starter then I would say it's too tight of an area to reasonably install the large body starter................You probably have a couple choices get the correct small body starter, or look at the area and see if you remove the exhaust manifold will give you enough clearance to get the starter in.

There's a different plate available for the large starter. Perhaps you will need to get a small one to avoid the issue.
