Re: Wrong Way Control

Everything goes in the right direction as far as cable, shift block and throttle but when I put lower unit back on. the motor is easily shifted into forward and neutral but wont
shift into reverse there is way to much pressure on the shift control, and no throttle.

Re: Wrong Way Control

So you are saying you can move you control box through all the range of motion with the lower unit off, and it actuates the upper shift rod in the correct direction, right??

If that is true, then remove the lower unit and do as I described in my last post. You have the lower shift shaft in the wrong position.

Re: Wrong Way Control

If I remove lower unit set shift post in neutral with reverse CCW and forward CW when I put lower unit back on it is backwards. If I drop lower unit put shift post in reverse and put back on I have neutral and forward with no reverse the shift lever at control box will not move to reverse.

Re: Wrong Way Control

O.K.

So if the lower is correct, then your problem MUST be at the contoller or the upper shift shaft. When you shift the controller, does the upper shift shaft move forward for forward and backward for backward in relation to the controller?

Re: Wrong Way Control

Yes when lower unit is off the controls work, when pushed forward the shift cable goes forward. When put into reverse the cable moves back. The throttle cable works correctly as well. But when I put it back together it does not work properly. I have it together now and it shifts into forward easily and back to neutral but will not move back into reverse without moving prop then it will lock into reverse but have no throttle movement it binds up.
I am wondering if I have a problem with reverse gear or something.

Re: Wrong Way Control

I Got it figured out. For anyone that might want to know the 2002 50 four stroke throttle and shift cables connect to the opposite side of the motor, so the shift cam has to be flipped to work in the opposite direction as most motors. The marine shop I got the motor from called after doing some checking and realized that they had put the shift cam in the same way as if it were a normal 2 stroke 50. So they are going to fix it for me. Thanks for all you help with this strange problem. Great forum great help.
Thanks Dean
