Re: W's Address

You know how, when you finally do something good, and the people who've been criticizing you all along just keep criticizing and saying "why didn't you do that a long time ago?" I just hate it when that happens.

Let's keep the neighborhoods clear after we clear 'em. Good idea.
Let's address Iran & Syria. Good idea.
Let's hold Iraq accountable for the commitments they make. Good idea.

Actually whether I think it's a good idea don't mean squat. Whether congress thinks it's a good idea don't mean squat either.

Just do it.

Re: W's Address

how much difference now will an additional 20K troops mean in controlling a population over 26 million and another 10 million or so trying to get in?
wont mean jack squat.
this plan is to little to late and is mostly more of the same.
control of bagdad will mean about the same as control of montgomery AL in1863.
wont mean squat as far as the war is concerned.
this is not a war against an object. its a war against a subjective issue like a war on drugs, poverty or a war on govt corruption or even a war on govt inefficiency.
its just another baby Bush ploy to get his legacy.

Rodbolt states:

even astute posters like oldmercs have difficulty with modern history, maybe even cant say how many democratically elected govts the US has toppled in the mid east.

Rodbolt, You know I have difficulty reading minds. Please be very specific: WHERE DO YOU FIND ANY DIFFICULTY THAT I HAVE WITH MODERN HISTORY?? Step right up my man. I hope you are not just a "drive by" bang banger, and instead hopefully you will take the time to articulate exactly what you mean. Respectfully JR

How silly of me to believe the costs of this war have been great enough for me to have concern. You are right, it's done and over, who cares? Nobody should ever be held accountable for their screw-ups. If you did not catch on j, those last 2 statements were full of sarcasm.

I would appreciate some sort of list from you letting me know what I may become concerned over. Dang it, I just hate when I overstep the lines you have created for me. What a joke.

Hope you feel a little better after that outburst.

I create my own lines - I'll create lines for you if you insist. But really, it's better if you create your own - it's not that difficult - go on, give it a try. Here's some for you to get started on:

You may now become concerned over:
Trend toward outlawing 2-stroke outboards.
Trend toward requiring ethanol in gasoline.
Replacement of actual programming with so-called "Reality Shows" on network TV.
War in Iraq.
Global warming.
Consolidation in the airline industry.
Rising healthcare costs.

See? Nothing to it!

Myself when we get more troops in country, I hope that we go after Muqtada al-Sadr,and his whole high command .We should have took him out when we had the chance. I believe it will be welcome news by the Iraq,s Maliki government as well, they may act like they are all bummed out about it, but in my opinion that is the only way that we will get a stable government in Iraq.

Boy that is a scary statement…had to go back and read it a couple of times to make sure I didn’t have some strange typo in it.

Statement stands as I put it down, think about it a bit, if Muqtada al-Sadr and Maliki are not in bed together they are competing for power, so Maliki should welcome any outside help. He has to play to his base, and act bummed.

Don’t think for a moment that I agree with this band of fools going into this illegitimate war in Iraq with the bunch of lies, but we have to get bushes A$$ out of the fire so we can hold it to the coals ourselves in two years. Maybe not him seeing as he is the lamest of ducks, but we can still hold anybody that even looked at him and smiled responsible. Has to be at least forty more years of Democratic elections after this debacle.

Yeah, I saw another treebuddy post that was really making some sense recently too. Can't remember exactly what it was, but I was thinkin' "Is this the same guy?" Anyway . . . then he has to go and mess everything up with this malarkey:

Re: W's Address

Perhaps he is getting intermittently delusional, like the rest of you.

There is no way Maliki is going after Al Sadr, nor is there any way the Iraqi army will as well.

He may possibly convince Sadr to lay low for awhile, but Maliki has to live in Iraq, and he knows that Sadr and Iran will all be there long after we are gone. He isn't going to challenge them to make W happy. And we aren't going after Sadr without Iraqi Army help

Eventually, when we eventually pull out, the strongest, most ruthless person in Iraq will take over with whatever group he can muster, and be every bit as bad as Saddam, or worse.

It may take a year, however, or 5 years, but it will happen shortly after we leave. At 100 Americans a month dead, We can continue as long as we want that meter to continue running.

Lil' more mind readin' PW? I hope you are wrong, and that the Iraqis can see that W only has two more years to try to "win" this thing, (and the Dems and some weak Repubs desparately want to loose. Win = self governing Iraq Democratic Republic). The "high brow" elite Libs here and in Europe don't think Arabs are capable of self government, (by their previously published statements). They (and you) may be right, and the outcome you project maybe in those type of cards. I sure hope not, (and hopefully you hope not also). Once we surrender, we will need to prepare to fight the Islamo facists here, (if Nancy and Harry lets us keep any of our guns), and if they take out a town or two, (New York, LA, Chicago, Seattle, etc), we will be back much more furiously then when we leave under your very unpleasent scenario. Respectfully JR

Re: W's Address

As for the extra troops in Iraq.Too little too late. They will only serve as training opponents for any arab with a death wish.
As far as El Sadr and the Iranians are concerned,Muqtada is an arab. The Iranians are not arabs.El Sadr may hate the Americans and the Sunni tribes in Iraq.He will hate the Iranians even more, because in Iran there is some form of democracy and women are allowed to vote and work and drive cars and lots of other things that would endanger the traditional arab tribal structure.Besides,Iranians do not hold a very high opinion of arabs.
Maybe we should pull our troops out and thereby force these people to either solve their problems or kill each other trying. When all is said and done, they will come back to ask for help.

Haut Medoc says: The sky is falling!d:)

Hey Bro Haut, Is that a prediction or a wish? Why did you not rise to the occasion and educate this poor uneducated Conservative, (you know: duh), what you were basing your (and Rodbolt's) statement that Ronald Reagan GAVE poison gas to Sadam? Would it expose some mind readin' or worse yet: jus' makin' it up? If that were a fact someone with some credibility would have put something on paper somewhere that you could refer me to. Rodbolt was trying to create lots of research work for me, (but I don't want to get as confused about politics as Rodbolt). I might start believin' in conspiracies or somthin'! Libs make up lots of nasty stuff on the net ya know, and if a person should read the stuff, that tells him what he already suspected: whew! JR
