2000 200hp Saltwaterseries 2 stroke sx200 . It appears that the idle speed has lowered a bit on its own. PM work that I have done in the past few years. New diaphragm style fuel pumps. Cleaned vst filter (looked perfect but cleaned it anyway) ,new fuel water sep every season. Tstats, New plugs every other season. Small filter near block looks fine but is due for a change. Runs and operates fine pretty much same for the 5 years I have it. The only observance I have made is that right at throttle up there is a tiny bit of hesitation, very slight at throttles up .The motor has always dont this but it is hardly noticable. dont understand why idle has slightly decreased????

Components wear wear over time.

When was the last time you did a “link and sync” and adjusted the throttle cable?

would not hurt to use a timing light to make sure the idle timing is still in spec and advancing properly

spark timing can change idle speed and affect the transition to higher RPM
Thanks, I have had this motor for only a few years and have not done anything ignition related....just the basics. Fuel pumps ,fuel filter by block, VSA filter, Tstats, filter under oil tank, plugs. Just these basics. Dont think I would;d know how to do anything timing related.

Give it a bit of a tune up Charlie :) it could be something as mundane as a change in fuel composition , but after a few years without a link and sync a small drop in idle speed is nothing to loose sleep over . As long as it starts well and doesnt stall when put in gear ...... Is the idle speed still in spec ?

so ,do you know how to use a timing light to check the spark timing on any motor?

Thanks..It Always starts right up and never stalls and yes if anything the idle is a very small drop.Dont know what a link and sync is?? Probably something better done by my local Yamaha dealer?. Thanks again

link and sync refers to the adjustment between the carb linkage - ignition advance and control cables . Its a methodical procedure so best have a few instructions in front of you , but its not hard to do . A shop will want a good chunk of cash to do the job and it might not be that .
Honestly Dude I wouldnt panic untill you get another tank full of fuel .......see how it goes , but if its doing everything it should just go boating :)
If you want to do something useful you could check that all the spark plugs look about the same ....like you dont have a really dark or light coloured one .Other than that just have a really good look at things ....you may notice something .
I have always advocated keeping things clean ,in doing so one gets to know how things look ( even if you dont fully understand what your looking at ) and you will see anything that has moved or changed out of place pretty quickly .
