I am breaking in a Nissan 40B (TLDI). My dealer has me using Evinrude XD 100 oil. Nissan recommends a variety of 50:1 synthetic TCW 3 oils. They have not reviewed XD 100. Is XD 100 a good synthetic for my engine?

The official answer would probably be that if it hasn't been tested by the factory, it's not appropriate. To protect your warranty, use what the motor manufacturer recommends. If the dealer is willing to make other recommendations, they are responsible for backing it up. Ask them if they'll replace the powerhead if it fails by using their recommendations. The factory might not.

The original Tohatsu TLDI manuals stated that one of their recommended oils was the OMC FICHT Ram oil or now known as XD-50. XD-100 oil is the fully synthetic version of the semi-synthetic XD-50 and is made for Direct Injected engines. It will work fine for your Tohatsu and you can call their customer service dept. to confrim it.

I really like that word "Confirm". That one word can save you a world of trouble.....and cash. Get the "Confirmation" in writing if you can.
