XR-4 Blackmax Stator Overheating?

Runs great cold, get up to operating temp and starts to lug and then wont restart, stuck in the water for 30 minutes until engine cools and walah, back to shore I make it. Ive rebuilt carbs, checked all vac lines, timed the engine, bought new fuel pump, new starter motor, new (OEM) battery, gearbox oil (not that thats related). Seems like CDI is charging fine while I have the engine going. Do stators do this? Ive heard they do but I need the council here boys. These parts arent cheap, and im running out of fingers to trade.

Check spark when it acts up....if no spark when hot usually stator. Also check rectifier/s as if bad can overheat stator.
