XR6 150 Cylinder Question?

Sorry, 2002 Merc XR6 150. Performed compression after idling for 10 minutes with a calibrated pressure gage. Pulled all spark plugs and did one cylinder at a time. Battery is 2 weeks old, and just came off the charge. Kill switch was off. The above reading were cranking for about 4 seconds each.

The decarb was with a 16 oz can of sea foam mixed with 1 gallon of fuel in an external tank. Idled 10 min, killed it, let sit for 5, start for 5, sit for 5, etc til 1 gallon was gone. On the last two runs I would bump throttle up to about 1200 rpm for a few seconds at a time occasionally.

It idles fine now, I twisted the oil pump link “in” one turn so it runs a tad leaner. Is this “super” risky? If you think so I’ll return it to factory and check my plugs after a few hours of use. I’m estimating that this will bring my mix to 110:1 vice 100:1 at idle, and 60:1 vice 50:1 at WOT. Using Kentucky yardage of course 😂.

i’m really thinking the root cause of the bogging was those bleed lines. A few were not fully clogged but difficult to blow through compared to others. When I checked the check-valves I replaced lines with new ones. Maybe it wasn’t able to vent the oil properly and it was puddling at the bottom and fouling my plugs super quick causing misfires.

I wanna go fishing tonight so hopefully you get back to me about that oil pump link. I made a few hard runs with it the way it is now. No hesitation, pulled plugs, prong looks “almost” dry with some oil wetness down the center insulator.

Again, I cant thank you enough for helping me out with all this. I know you do this out of shear kindness to be helpful. Wish there were more people like you in the world. If your a mechanic, I owe ya atleast one hour of labor if you wanna send me an address to send a check to. Thanks again!

you haven't mentioned what its on?.. how you use it?.. how its set up?..

never fooled with tha oiler stuff much.. .. most all of mine didn't come with it!.. few i worked on had it but never any problems with it.. only removal when tha guys started gettin' nervous or were gonna turn tha wick up on 'em…

not a "mechanic".. justa a love/hate hot rod relationship with tha V6 merc since 1976... got old and left in tha dust with all this 'lectronic/computer junk.. jus can't wrap my old head around tunin with a computer instead of a screwdriver!!!

good luck and great fishin'...……..

It’s been awhile but winter came and I wasn’t sure if I fixed my motor for the hesitation and fuel problem. Now I’m sure sure about the fix but it took a almost clomplete tear down of the motor before I found my cause. Obviously a number of things can cause my issues, but turns out it was the gasket on the back of the fuel pump in combination of not using locktite on the mounting screws when I replaced the internals. I guess the vibration loosened the screws and was allowing air to enter into the pump causing it not to pump correctly. Put it all back together and have taken it fishing a few times without any issues. It screams now. Hope this helps someone else. moral of the story is to save money by USING THE RECOMMENDED LOCTITE WHEN REBUILDING THE FUEL PUMP. That 5$ gasket and loctite caused me throwing hundreds into figuring it out.
