Yachtwin 6 hp, year and fuel mixture?

Hi<br />I just bought a yachtwin 6 hp, longshaft, model number E6SLCRM, serial number E0324375 boat motor for $300.00. <br />What year is it? Is it a 2 cycle or 4 cycle? If 2, what is the gas mixture? It has some sort of "alternator" connection, is this 6v or 12V? What do I do with the alternator, do I _only_ run night lights or can I connect it to a 12 v marine battery and run lights from it? Will it charge the battery? will it over charge the battery? <br />I was told it has less than 5 hours, the engine looks clean and the rope looks new. Is there some other way of determining how new a motor is? Can I shorten the shaft?<br />thanks,<br />-Lj

Hello.<br />You have an Evinrude sail/special styling long shaft (20")1984 engine.<br />The mix is 1:50.It is a two cycle.<br />If it has electric gear on it is probably a 12 volt starter.If there is a charging unit on it, it is not very strong and it would be a good idea to get a 12 volt deep cycle battery and trickle charge it every time you come off the water.<br />There are kits available to turn it into a short shaft.<br />You can check the compression on the cylinders and if that is good you should not worry about how "new" this 1984 is.If it really only has been used for five hours ,you may wish to replace the impeller and make sure the carburator is clean.<br />Good luck.

Hi Lj. <br /><br />From the Model number, your 6 horse is a 1984. Fuel mix is 50:1 or 16oz of oil to 6 gal. of gas. Please explain a little more about the "alternator connection". Where is it?

Lj<br />Your Motor is a 1984 Evinrude 6 HP(Sail - Special Styling)Long Shaft 2 cycle. Fuel Mixture is 50:1. 1 Pint TCW-3 oil to 6 Gal Gas.

Thank you all very much for the info that it is a two cycle, 1984 motor. BTW, the wires for the alternator come out the front. <br />Now that I found out that this motor is 19 years old, I brought it by a marina store for their assessment. The marina confirmed that it still has the original spark plugs. They claimed shortening the shaft would be very expensive. I picked up some spark plugs and oil and will attempt to start it on Saturday. <br />Thanks again,<br />-Lj <br />p.s. It didn't come with a manual...
