yahmaha losing power

2001 yahama 800. Heres the problem. I have lost considerable power. As early as a month ago I coould go 55 mph easy. now I can only do about 43 on a nice day. I replaced the fuel filter and the plugs and no help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

the first thing you need to do is a compression check, you may have a carb issue but it is important to know that the compression is ok before looking for any other issues.

Compression is real good. Am being told that it is the carb. can't figure out why....only has 74 hours on it.

Well I would get the exact readings of the compression because low compression in one cylinder will cause the same results so will a power valve issue or a fuel starvation issue.

Has the ski been sitting for a long time? did you winterize it. I wouldnt go running too long with it cause if youre starving for fuel you could be leaning out the motor. How are the power valves? Take the carbs off and clean and service them. Are the plugs fouling up? could be a weak spark etc

maybe also check for loose hose clamp or split in hoses, my shark loses power if hoses are not right.
