Yam 225 - How can we get one pulser coil only ?

The engine is Yamaha 225 HP 2st V6 year 1990

Using the service manual to test pulser coils, it appears the one dealing with cylinders 1 and 4 shows no continuity, the two others show a correct resistance.

While the engine is running, it looks like indeed that cylinders 1 and 4 are not working.

So this might be the solution of a long lasting problem with the engine not working correctly since a while.

Looking at Yamaha parts apparently we can not order the pulser coils separately, we have to buy the whole piece with 3 pulser coils, plate and harness, and this is expensive (part 6R5-85580-00-00 +/- 430 USD), less expensive than here in France (crazy price 850 Euros) but I just need one pulser coil.

Does someone know where to get that for a normal price ?

have you looked at aftermarket parts or rebuilt ones?
CDI Electronics may have them.

You may have a open wire before it gets to the coil that can be repaired, have you looked.

Thanks for the answer.

I am looking for aftermarket parts too but not sure I can find that here and it would be easier if I can order it on iboat.com or other.

I have checked for wires hoping this can be the problem, but at the end I have dismounted the coil and checked for resistance on the two wires coming right in and no continuity, I don't think I can do more with this black box, unless you have other idea it has to be changed I guess

Just an update for a long lasting problem.

I changed the pulser coil and the "anthic" is now running like in the good old times, like crazy.

So the problem was only this small thing, this closes too definitely the saga : http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=363524 , even if some other changes were necessary, I am convinced now the main problem started with this.

And it's still interesting to know that it caused the computer to enter in protection mode because I never saw this information anywhere.

Thanks
