The year is a 2001 with everything new except the computer and the lower end.Yes a brand new power head. The work is being done at a professional very confident place of business and I'm sure soon I will have the engine. But having confidence in this board I have to ask.I took the boat to the water and engine did start but very smokey and at low idle and stalled after a minute but would restart and after a dozen restarts smoke cleared but still only a quiet idle and stall if put in gear.Back in the shop and i did hear engine backfire twice on attemps to get it to run .Fuel pressure was 32 psi at the vst and things were checking out and no warning buzzers.had oil at prop hub and oil coming down from small hole at lower end.I did hear the mechanic say "computer" is suspected .Any tips appreciated and will let you know what happens.

My money is on an o2 sensor. Install a new one. Don't try to clean the old one.

Re: yama 250 efi problem.

"bump" Well I still do not have the engine running and have since got my boat and engine back from dealership and at a standstill.I put the boat in storage and headed north as I'm retired but plan to return to florida in the fall. Will look for a new dealer with the right mechanics next time .I realize c.d.I.units seldom go bad but I'm leaning that it's my problem and here's why .Like I said everything is brand new under the "hood" except the c.d.I.and when the mechanic had the engine running he slightly moved the "crankshaft position sensor" and seemed to change what pistons were firing(all fired at one time or another so he said.Lots of smoke in the shop. Now here is the 64 dollar question on c.d.I.units.My engine a Lx250 turz and calls for a c.d.i. number 65L-85540-02-00 and how important are the numbers compared to others?for instance a 1990 "250hp"etxd has a number 61a-85540-01-00.The "shop" did not have a spare cdi to try as the one in the engine now was a old one.I best tell the story from the start. When my wife and I looked at the engine on the showroom floor it was highly polished and the boss told me it gets a new powerhead so I bought it and months later all the parts finally came in and here I am ,and no will not go the lawyer route,I'll put my money on the mechanic. The o2 sensor was new and the menchanic said he re-cleaned it.I found out the shop is in "hard times" and no spare parts. One more thing if cdi harness wiring match up does that mean it's compatable? thanks for reading any help appreciated.
