Motor is a 97 115, 6E5 115TJRV 2 stroke
I just recently switched Outboards from a 90 to 115Jet, non oil injec to oilinjection. The 115 ran great smoth idle no stumble between low and High speed, I ran the 115 for over an hour before buying and making the switch.

Afterwards on My boat it will not plane out and only seems to run at about half throutle or power. Im wondering if some of the wiring is diff from a 703 control to 704. I have two plugs not used with My cotrols, one plug on the motor has two wires green/red and green/black which come from the oil tank under the hood and one other pig tail that has a black orane and pink wire that looks like it goes to the tilt trim. Is one of these causing a safemode condition and can I bypass it? I have a 115 manual on order just not in Yet, thanks for the help. Oh yeah I need to add no alarm at all and it does seem to be using oil, I topped off the tank and it was down after running.
Thanks, Mike

Re: Yamaha 115 In safe mode I think??

what RPM is it running?
Safe mode limits it to around 2K with the timing as far as I know.
Same trouble shooting as on the 90, compression and spark on all cylinders. see what the timing is doing and then look at the fuel.

What did you finally find out on your 90?
You never updated your other thread.
Could be a tank full of bad fuel, water and trash, that is common to both motor problems

Re: Yamaha 115 In safe mode I think??

The 90 was the ignition pickup under flywheel, this motor had no problems before the switch to My boat. The boat is a 2010, fresh 93 octane and the fuel bulb is firm during the condition. If You come out of the hole wot it will plane out to 30mph and then cut back to about 18 after about 75 yards, and feels very strong. if You tru to get on plane slowly it will only get to about 18 on gps at wot and it cant be more than 2500 rpms. My 90 tach dosent work with the 115 jet. No sighns of overheat pee water temp is not hot at all but looks strong. I had the impelar out it was in good shape.
Thier is not skip or mis in it at all, its idles and is smooth at every rpm.
Im wondering is the wires not pluged in (green/black green/red) from the oir reseyour sending a false signal.

Re: Yamaha 115 In safe mode I think??

Hey just wanted to give an update, Rodbolt had posted on another thread that the two leads green/black and green/red dont need to be conected for the motor to function properly. I replaced the water impelar yesterday that didnt seen in all that bad of condition and (BAM) no more problem. It seems that My outboard was getting alittle hot and not giving an alarm, I ran for over an hour today with mutible starts while fishing and no problems.
Thanks for all the help and replys.

FIX THE DANG ALARM.
its all the same for the 90 and the 115.
the 90 tach WILL work with the 115,you may lose the trim indicate depending on the age of the 90.
thats whats so good about Yamaha, doesnt matter what the operator ignores or how stupid the operator is,it will try to protect itself.
to GO away from the dock with NO alarms on a V4 liquid cooled oil injected outboard is the kind of folk the USCG gets calls on everyday.
