In regards to an earlier post of mine, could the fact that I get gas squirting out of my fuel filter when I squeeze the bulb hard cause it to not idle, but run ok at wot?

Wow that's not supposed to happen.
But 9 times out of ten it's dirty carbs.
Clean carbs inspect fuel system for leaks.

Re: yamaha 115 not idling

Well, the carbs were rebuilt at the beginning of this season, the only leaks I can find are when I squeeze the bulb, gas squirts out of the fuel filter assembly, engine won't idle unless someone sits in back and lightly squeezes the bulb or I lightly hit the choke to smooth out the idle, then I can open her up and go.

You need to fix that fuel leak at filter as the system is sucking in air, not good for your pumps, carbs and motor and dangerous.

Please post your complete model number. Is this the factory fuel filter? Where on the filter does it leak? This is very dangerous and needs to be corrected.

Re: yamaha 115 not idling

I'll find the model number later today,I'm at work right now, but it is a 115 2 stroke, 1989. It appears to be the stock little plastic threaded fuel filter thing right in front of the fuel pump. I just bought this boat on consignment from the local dealership this season. I didn't see any o-ring or any other type of seal inside there like I thought should be there. It leaks when you squeeze the bulb at the union where the bottom part threads onto the top. This is my first boat, never worked on them before, obviously. Built bikes and cars all my life, this is all new territory.

Thanks,
John

OK, my engine is a 1989 yamaha 115 etlf, at least thats what the previous owner has written in the owner manual, although the manual is for 115 etg, 150 etg, etc.

Re: yamaha 115 not idling

Problem is, the filter container is tight. Not really sure if there is supposed to be an o-ring in there or not, but I didn't see one, think I'll just get rid of it and run an in-line after the bulb and a water separator filter before the bulb. Think that will work?

Yes but you better have a 10 micron Racor in front of it.

Re: yamaha 115 not idling

The filter has an o-ring and a gasket. Order a new complete filter with this part number [6R3-24560-00-00]. This is an updated part number and you should not have any more problems. It is not a good idea to remove the filter.

Thanks for all the help. I'll be changing that filter out and running her this weekend. Where'd you get that part number, by the way, Bruce? Sure could use a book like that.
