Hi all,

Just a question

I have a 6.2 metre fibreglass boat that currently has a yamaha 2-stroke 1990 150hp v6 (600 hours). I have picked up a spare motor which is a mercury 2-stroke 2006 115hp optimax (150 hours). Thinking of installing the mercury and getting rid of the yamaha.

What are peoples thoughts on this? The mercury runs quiter, uses less fuel and smokes less. But how would they compare power wise?

I can't find any specs anywhere for the yamaha

Thanks
Shaun

Re: Yamaha 150hp vs mercury 115hp optimax

Power is rated at prop so it's a 150 HP versus a 115 HP, 35 HP difference. Performance will depend on N? of passengers, load to transport, engine weight, water conditions. If 150 is top for your boat, 75% of that will work fine, if in real need can play with prop pitch to increase engine rpm. Nobody in their right mind runs wot all the time...

Happy Boating
