I have been told that on the new yamaha 4 strokes that they have a sensor/governor that will not allow them to over-rev and limits the RPM?s.

Is this true?

If not what is max rpm?s for a 115 hp? I looked through the owners manual and can not find anything.

Maximum RPM for your motor is 6000 RPM.

Yes, there is over rev protection built into your motor. It should never be needed. If you have a tachometer in front of you and the throttle in your hand that is.

Thanks I am new to this whole boating life and was reading last night and someone mentioned over-reving and I remember when they sold me the boat they said you can’t hurt the engine, it wants to run wide open.

Then I read about over revs and starting thinking I may have been messing up the motor and not knowing it.

The motor has never cut out on me so I guess I am okay.

I have a 2002 115 4 stroke and if you cut it hard in a turn and it "cavitates" the rev limiter comes in handy...happens more often that you might think!
