Yamaha 15hp go go faster than idle but will rev

1998 15hp Yamaha. Pulled up to shore put in neutral but it stayed in gear had to pull kill switch. After shut off went into neutral. When restarted goes into gear and revs up but only moves at idle speed. Could have hit relatively sandy bottom when first problem occured. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Maybe check the linkages to the carb and the spark advance, could be something simple.

Thanks I'll check that. But it's weird revs out like I should be really moving but just barely going anywhere.

sounds like you spun the hub in the prop
