I had my waterpump and high pressure fuel pump belt replaced along with the lower unit oil and my local Yamaha service center. I now have two things missing from under my engine cover. I had these foam strips that were glued onto the, I believe, spark control units?. These are on each side of the engine just forward of the heads. The foam pieces were about 3" wide and about as tall as the heads. I would guess that they were for sound or heat protection.

The Yamaha shop said that they did not remove them. I asked to look around their shop to see if they fell off onto the floor. They had been becoming un-glued at the tops. I had actually hoped that the mechanic would surprise me and re-glue them for me. They pulled up diagrams of the engine on their computer and it did not show the pieces I say are missing.

Does it hurt to have these removed? Thanks, Bert

those foam strips are a useless pain in the rear. so far I havent found a way to reglue them.
fuel vapors eat the glue and off they come. I have seen them fall off and tangle with all kinds of stuff.
the strips are not offered seperatly from the plastic water covers.
I see engines all the time that someone left the plastic covers off.
so I would not sweat it to much. those covers have to be removed to access the thremostats
no spark control units on an HPDI, the system is 12v transistorized ign, the coils have 12v to them anytime the key is on. the current path to ground is controlled by the ECU which is buried behind the injector driver. what year HPDI are we disscussing, in 2004 they changed the ign coil mount and went from a single driver to dual drivers.
