Ok here goes. 1991 Yamaha 200TXRR Code 666VL SN76461.

Just bought the used boat. Here's what I have to fix and the questions.

1. The prev owner did not have the annode/trim vane attached and had a Dole planing fin bolted on the cavitation plate. The fin appears to have taken a lick on the starbord aft corner. The cavitation plate is cracked from the mounting point for the trim tab forward to port at ~45 deg and displaced at the origin of the crack ~1/8" upward. There appear to be no leaks. Question: If I have it welded will it hold up in the Salt Water?

2. The steering bracket is badly corroded where it attaches to the steering assembly. I feel it prudent to replace it. (interestingly there isn't any other corrosion on this engine.) I've not done this job before. Will I have to pull the power head? What's involved? Parts are not bad ~$200. How much might the labor cost for this job if I have it done?

3. Yamaha electronic gauges.

a. The volt function on the multifunction gauge is not working.

b. Also the fuel gauge initially reads empty (with the red warning flag showing) then slowly rises upward to full.

c. AND the hour meter is not working (former owner assures it worked up to last use this spring) and replacement of the forward oil resevoir transfer pump.

Trouble shooting suggestions.

And Finally.

4. May have to replace the gauges. Does anyone have information on hookup or the wiring diagram for the gauge harness? Looking for a deal on good used or new gauges just in case.

Sorry so long...just lots to do on this boat.

Steve

Re: Yamaha 200

Let's edit item 3.c. The transfer pump was replaced in the spring at which time (former owner says) the hour meter stopped working.

Also the Boat is a 1991 Cape Horn 21.

Steve

Re: Yamaha 200

hello
without looking at your multi-function I am going to assume its the sme age as the engine. if so the volt function only flashes and then only if the battery voltage drops below about 11-11.5 volts. the fuel level sounds normal. it has a delay built into the meter to dampen the readings due to fuel slosh while underway. slosh would make the bars scale up and down rapidly. the hour meter may just be unplugged. yellow wire is key on 12v positve. black is ground and green is tach signal. now the gigger. if this is a 1991 saltwater used motor there is a very good chance the p[owerhead mopunting bolts wont come out. if they dont you will have to cut the power head adaptor . I use a 1/2 drill and get as close to the top of the bolt yet staying away from the parting line and drill through cutting the bolt. the holes going from bottom(narrow) to top (wide) are tapered and the corrosion can weld them.
good luck and keep posting.

Re: Yamaha 200

Geez...I must be getting senile. The engine and boat are 93. I also have a 97 cape horn with a Yamaha 115 and multifunction gauge which looks the same as the gauge in this 93. On both there is a function selector push button which cycles between functions...one of which is the volt function. My 97 reads battery voltage. Should a 93 read the same way?

As far as the fuel gauge, what puzzles me is the difference in the way they display. The 93 model initially flashes red indicating low fuel, then slowly the bars rise to the full mark. The prev owner "said" there was about 1/3 tank fuel onboard...but who knows.

I'm praying about the bolts...real hard now!!! If the hour meter is indeed correct, the boat has less than 450 hours on it..most in SW. But who knows. I'd like to try one of those bolts to see if it will break free. The original owner(s) were fanatical about spraying fog oil oll over the engine and the holes might be protected...(always can wish).

Don't understand what you're telling me about drilling out to "cut" the bolts. Are you attempting to drill out the mounting bolts from bottom to top and retap?

Steve

hello
most the time I can cut the bolt and save the power head adaptor. sometimes not.
picture the bolt. goes up (vertical) though the ex housing, through the p-head adaptor and into the block. trace the bolt from the head to the block with a magic marker. now useing a 3/8th or 1/2 bullet point drill bit drill a hole horizontally through the marker line just under the power head. stop when the bolt has been cut.
good luck and I hope ya dont have to test my method.
