Yamaha 225 Excel Question

OK, first things first. Thanks for the help you guys gave me on finding the speedo sensor on my Yamaha Excel motor. I would have never found that little booger without someone telling me (exactly) where it was. Its a pin hole!o:)

Now I have another question on the Yamaha 225 Excel.

I have a combination gauge on the dash (A Yamaha Gauge). The gauge tells me the engine trim level and has warning lights for oil and temp etc. It also has a two digit liquid crystal display for RPM's (X 100).

Right now? All I get is a reading of zero. I took it by my mechanic yesterday and he told me that they would probably have to put the engine on the computer analizer to be sure, but it was something to do with the (resistor?) on the motor.

Since the gauge was reading a zero and not simply blank? The mechanic said that he felt pretty sure that the gauge was working and that the wiring was not the problem.

But they couldn't do the check yesterday while I was there.

So my question is this. Is there any way that I can trouble shoot this on my own? 1. Determine if it is something they will either have to adjust or replace? 2. Or should I just wait until next week and let them do it?

Re: Yamaha 225 Excel Question

If it is showing a zero, then the gauge is normally good. Be sure the green wire is connected well to the tach. Normally a wire connection problem between the rectifier and the tach.
