Yamaha 225 trim control?

OK. the trim switch at the throttle will lift the motor but not lower it. The switch on the MOTOR will work up & down. Does this prove that the relay is good/ bad? There is power from the throttle switch all the way back to the motor but no response for down action.
Ideas? thanks, Cons

I'd take the engine cowl switch out and plug it in at the control handle connections and verify but there is only one set of relays for the switches...check all connections first 8)

zzz. thanks for the replies. Hers the deal now. I have read many threads here & done alot of the standard stuff. New battery & clean connections.I now have what I will call "intermittant dead helm" disease.
Trim & starter will work OK after sitting on mooring overnight. Run boat for 1-2 hours, w/start & stops. Let it sit for 3 hours & dead helm has set in. No trim & no ignition. Sit overnight & works again.
Today it was OK first try & then I did the solenoid jump test w/ brown wire so that I will know how. That went fine but then I put it back together and dead helm again. Is there a fuse or relay that might get hot or what? I can change any part if I know which one to do. Got any ideas? thanks much. Cons

I'll just keep posting my progress and maybe someone will chime in & give me a tip or two.
Chased the red trim power lead to middle of harness in back & under cylinders. Splitter juction was corroded & wires fell apart. Spliced in fresh wire & cleaned cowl switch, (small tear in boot had let in H2o & corroded contacts). Cowl switch now works great.
Throttle switch only works UP. I'll chase that green wire & look for same problem.
I also found a black wire with bullet connector very dirty & mostly un-plugged in back ,in main harness cluster.
Anyone know what this one does??

Got it. the green wire in the main harness bundle was bad inside. Looked OK on the outside but I cut out a long section and hooked it up to the tester light-nothing. Spliced in a new piece and down trim works great. I am going to order a new engine harness to avoid the next one going bad.
It's not over yet of course, now the intermittant bogging down on throttle is now chronic, I'm thinking pump diaphragms? Any ideas? thanks for the tips. Cons

I am having the same problem (dead helm) on my boat w/ 250hp (1992) sometimes it works sometimes not (ignition and trim). I just had a post a week ago on this. Sometimes gauges flash and reset while running. Rodbolt advised it was a bad wire dropping the voltage. "He's the man". I am getting to my boat this weekend to find my voltage drop. Were all of your in the cowling or on the console end of your harness. Thanks.

Sometimes gauges flash and reset while running. Rodbolt advised it was a bad wire dropping the voltage. "He's the man". I am getting to my boat this weekend to find my voltage drop. Dead helm seems to have been due to bad main battery cable. Internal corrosuion will create resistance and heat & power will stop. I by-passed the old + cable & got solid helm power. Bad trim wires were in the back of the cowling, ( heat & H2o). Cons

Positive cable from battery to switch or the Yamaha + cable from the motor to the battery switch. I'll be tracing mine back from the battery so we'll find out soon where my voltage drop is.

Main pos+ batt cable from batt. to solenoid. Wire was black inside at batt end. By-pass seems to have solved problem. Now for my fuel issue.............................
