Greetings All,

I am a newbie to this forum but have been boating my whole life and taking care of the TLC's and repairs that go with owning a boat(s).
I have been attempting to research upgrading a pull start 2000 Yamaha 25 to electric start. I am having trouble finding a conversion kit in the US. I have found a company in Australia (OZ Wide Starters) that has what I think I need but I have had no luck receiving any response from them.
Motor Details: 2000 Yamaha 25 MSHY 6L2 twin carb. The motor already has the mounting bracket for the starter motor but I would like to find the whole kit or Parts needed if possible. Can someone please advise.

25MSHY is a Yamaha USA 2000 year model. An electric start version was not offered in 2000. However, there was an electric start version in 1999. Model 25ELHX.

No electric start conversion kits were offered.

You can view the Yamaha USA parts catalog to determine the differences between the two models. The starter motor, battery cables and push to start button being just a few of the parts that will be needed.

Look at the parts break down and simply find the parts you need

Thread is a little old but I'll go ahead throw in what I know. The 2 most expensive things you will need will be the starter and then a toothed flywheel. I have had two early 90s model 25's like yours - one e-start and the other manual - and both had toothed flywheels. I have a couple of manual start ones from your generation too and neither have toothed flywheels. You likely will have to find a parts motor or search ebay for a deal as I cant imagine those would be cheap direct from Yamaha and possibly NLA. Starters will be pricey even if you get a knockoff chineese version. I'd probably search used.

You will need battery cables. The motor specific ones from Yamaha again will be pricey. An alternative here is to make your own. I made a set not too long ago out of a $15 8awg jumper cable I got from Walmart. Will it last forever?...no, but I dont live or use near salt and its stored indoors when not in use.

You will need a starter solenoid. In reality a solenoid is nothing special. You can use any one that can handle the starter amps, which maybe 30A (you can calculate that if you can find the starters listed Watts rating and divide by 12V). The beauty of the OEM one is it can be mounted cleanly. I'm almost certain that some of the old waverunner starter solenoids are identical but for some reason have a diff part number and are just a few bucks used. Worth a look.

Motors had neutral safety interlock switches too. Basically so you can't use electric start in fwd gear. Sure its a good safety measure, but it would be on the bottom of the priority list if I did the conversion. I think it is like $30-40 oem part.

Will need the starter push button of course.

One of the final things would be the charging coil from under the flywheel. Older models had them on the manual start models similar to how they already had toothed flywheels. I believe they had 2 green wires that were unused hanging down. I think the later models did not. Need this if you want to charge batteries as you run but it should work without it. Similarly you would need a rectifier/regulator to pair with it for charging. Off the top of my head I cant rem where it is on these models and what it looks like.
