My 1995 yamaha saltwater series loses power. When running it starts to lose power and will pick back up when you continually pump the ball. When you stop pumping the motor loses power slowly and sometimes will idle or die. This has been getting worse. The ball has been changed, carbs cleaned, fuel tank cleaned, fuel/water seperator changed. The mechanics have not been able to fix this after about 2,000. ow they say the stator is bad. They have not changed the fuel pump. Could this be the problem.

Re: yamaha 250 saltwater

Welcome to iboats, Prime. Yes, it's 99% sure time to rebuild the fuel pump. No need to buy a complete new pump, just time to replace the diaphram and checks in the original. But one other thing--(the other 1% )-- Does the ball collapse?? <br />If so, the problem is NOT the fuel pump, but the tank not being able to vent. If the ball collapses, crack open the filler cap. If performance returns, it's a clogged vent.Recheck the inline filter too. While you have the filter out, run some compressed air thru the fuel line to the tank. Then undo the line to the fuel pump, and run some air thru it. This would clear most obstructions in the lines,or at the pickup in the tank..

Re: yamaha 250 saltwater

The ball is very easy to pump. I ws told that the ball would never get very hard because fuel was always going through it. When I contually pump it does not seem to get any harder. I have tried opening the the fuel cap and it does not help. Also fuel readily comes out the vent when I am fueling it up. This problem use to only happen occassionally and would correct itself after pumping the ball. Now it wont go 10 feet without pumping te ball

Did you ever get your problem resolved? My 2000 Yamaha 250 has been sitting for a few months, and now is very intermittent on idle also. It revs up and dies out regularly while running now. I have cleaned fuel lines and am looking to replace fuel pump. The ball does go soft after it does start and run a couple of minutes.
