Yamaha 2stroke Powerheads Built by Merc?

Hi Guys, I don't want to offend anyone, but I was told by a reliable source that the high powered two stroke Yamahas were manufactured by Mercury Marine. Is that true? I know Yamaha built many Merc 4 strokes. If so what powerheads from what year to when: if anyone knows? Thanks for your help. JR

Consider your reliable source Unreliable. Heck No! Zilch, Nada, Nothing, Never! It was always a one-way street. Merc bought from Yamaha. Yamaha never bought nothing from Merc. In the 80s it was Mariners below 65Hp. In the 90s til last year it was most of Mercury's 4-strokes.

Just like Willy said. Producy has been on a one way street From Yamaha to Mercury. Very unrelible source you were listening to.

How Embarassing. I just abused my brother in Alaska, thinking I was getting the strait scoop. I should have asked you guys before I opened up my big fat mouth. I will have to eat my hat or something. He considers Merc's "boat anchors", that frequently need the "float test". I think he may try the float test with his 200 HP if I don't take my medicine real soon. Bummer, I could have milked that one for years. Thanks JR

I am actually looking at getting a 225 4stroke made by yamaha for Merc. Has anyone heard anything about them? Issues, things like that. Need to know soon so i can get my boat in the drink....
