Hi folks I was winterizing my Yamaha 20hp 4 stroke the other day and thought I would share what I emcountered and was surprised by. Everything that I have read about wintering informs the reader that outboards are completely self draining and that you should raise/lower your motor several times to get the water out. I did follow this rec but was also curious about the small flushing line that you can connect to a garden hose for flushing purposes. I un-screwed the flushing connector and noticed a little water coming out and desided to blow out the line. I was very surprised as to how much water came out of the telltail and lower unit intake. I never used the flush connection and bought the motor brand new this past spring. I am glad I removed the flush line to check for water. Just thought I'd share my findings. Almost time for hardwater fishing.
