I have a 2004 F40TLRC.
What is a reasonable amount to pay to have carbs (3) rebuilt?
Best price I've found is $100 ea ($300 total)

Thanks

Re: Yamaha 40 4-stroke carb

Hopefully you will be taking it to a good Yamaha shop that have the proper tools and equipment to do the job correctly.
You are paying for the parts, labor, and the access to the proper equipment to set the carbs once they have been cleaned and the expertize to do it properly.

You may be able to do it your self but I doubt you have the equipment or knowledge.

The old 2 strokes were a lot easier and took less tools and equipment for setting, but that is progress and newer technology for you.
But that is why I still run the old carb 2 strokes

At this point I don't know how reputable they are. I will be checking for more options. Just want to know what a reasonble cost would be to get the job done.

Thanks

do a forum search, I am sure I have seen Rodbolt and others say somethings about hours needed and prices on carbs.

takes 4 to 5 hours to properly do those carbs, if they dont have a tech mate tool or a suitable subsitute they simply cannot do it.
the F40 carbs rate among the most difficult outboard carbs ever made.
look for a minimum of 4 stroke systems and fuel systems certificates on the dealership wall.

Re: Yamaha 40 4-stroke carb

My problem is that the motor starts, idles and when I give her gas it stalls. Sometimes if I hit it just right and get past middle range it runs good opened up.

I took it to a shop last summer and for $200 they told me carbs should be rebuilt.

I bought the boat used in 2009 and it sat quite a bit between uses.

If I new spending anoth 300 to rebuilt the carbs would solve my problem I would do it.

Re: Yamaha 40 4-stroke carb

sounds like the accelerator pump circuits in the carbs are gummed up, yep means carbs come off and apart.
kits are very expensive and it takes 4 hours or so.
all 3 come off and are reinstalled at the same time.

A good water/ fuel filter is a good insurance policy along with fuel stabilizer and running the motor often to keep carbs in good working order once they are cleaned properly.
