I bought a 1996 yamaha 40. the previous owner said that it had a problem from the factory that it wouldn't stay in reverse.
he had it repaired after the warantee was out. and had to have the lower unit rebuilt.
I just tested it in a tank. it will not stay in reverse and it sounds like the shift dogs are rubbing in neutral.
shifts into forward perfectly.
does this indicate that the backlash is not set correctly?
I do not see any adjustments for the shifter. is there one?
thanks
