Does anyone know why the modifications on the rod/cdi has been done? Any ideas? The engine runs ok but can be a bit dodgy at times

Did not manage to add pic, the rod to the speed leaver is extended, and the "arrow" on the cdi box is cut in half/welded back again, changes the angles. The question is, why has this been done in the past?

Maybe purchase new parts and replace those modified....go back to stock/normal and work from there...

Looks a bit silly? Rod extended in length with a treaded bar - cdi "plate" cut in half/changed angle - Could be that "99Yam40" is correct? That the cdi box is from another motor. My local yam dealer had never seen this mod before

My C40TLRX had the idle timing too far retarded even when the arrow and marks lined up .
had to replace the CDI.

Check timing with a timing light to see what it is doing and if it is advancing properly and in spec
