my local marine shop got a 96 or 98 yamaha 40 hp 2 stroke/2 cylinder in for 1600. controls included. they want to give me 500 for my tracker evinrude 25hp. so thats 1100 for the motor

If the motor is in good condition compression and everything runs great and EVEN TITLE get a 6 month garentee with it or even 3 months. BUT NO warrenty i would say no deal as you are paying for one.

compression checks out on both cylinders at 148. im not sure about a warranty yet but i'll call the place monday and find out

if i buy the motor how hard is it to hook everything up as controls, wiring and steering components?

The wiring for the yamaha motor should be a plug on the motor and a plug comming from your control box wher eyou just plug together Everything is pretty easy. the wiring is the hardest part if not a plug type. Make sure the steering on your old motor is the same as on the new motor. You might need a title in your state for the motor. LIKE TEXAS None of the wires / controls are the same except the battery cable (Maby) as your old motor.
