Yamaha 70 starting problem

I have a 1995 Yam 70hp. I am having problems with it being slow to crank at cold and not taking the gas until warmed up. Seems like it is not firing on all cylinders at startup. Once it gets over its slugishness it runs great the rest of time it fires right up and takes gas perfectly, but it does still idle a little rough though. Is this motor supposed to have an elcetric choke activated by pressing the key switch? I guess my mind is going but I cannot remember if this engine choked this way or was it my old motor. Anyway the key switch does not press in now. Any ideas???

Can someone help with some troubleshooting on the Prime Start system?

Re: Yamaha 70 starting problem

I don't think they have electric choke, just an thermoelectric valve to start the motor when cold. The trick with the prime start system is don't touch the lever before you start the motor as I believe that turns the system off.
