I just bought a used 2005 Yamaha 8 horse for a couple kids in need of an outboard motor for a light 14' aluminum boat. I plan to go over it thoroughly tomorrow. So far, it looks pretty good.
Doing a bit of online research, I noticed that there are no downloadable/saveable manuals readily available. Does anyone know of a link to go to that might have free downloadable manual(s) for this engine?
An interesting aspect of this engine is that it has cross flow scavenging rather than loop scavenging. From looking at the history of this engine, it seems that it was loop scavenged up until 2002. I'm making that assumption because the pistons for 2002 and earlier 8/6 h.p. engines were flat or slightly domed thus loop scavenged.
I'm curious if anyone would know why Yamaha would have went back to outdated cross flow scavenging in 2003 and subsequent 2 stroke 8 h.p. engines?
Any help with the above will be appreciated.
