Yamaha 90 With No Spark

I have recently inherited a Yamaha 90 C90TLRX that has been sitting unused for about 2 years. The starter turns when I turn the key but no spark is going to the plugs. Are there a few things I can check or parts that could have gone bad to replace or repair that may cause this to happen? I am a greenie and would appreciate your input.

If the spark is missing on all three. I'd suspect a bad killswitch or missing landyard.

I assumed it was a 3 cylinder before I looked up the year model (1999). Those fangled late models have the killswitches under the seat don't they?

Thanks Marc,

I believe the kill switch is by the seat. I will check these things later today.

I will do that tomorrow afternoon and let you know. Thanks for your input.

To Marc - The kill switch and lanyard are working and intact.

Justintime,

I unpluged a white wire coming from the box and there was still no spark and a connection with a pair of white wires with the same outcome. I took the time to clean all wiring connections to ensure good contact.

good deal
now u will need to test voltage output of the stator and triggers
u need a dva and volt meter, or u can use ohms but that is not the best test, because i have tested things that it ohmed right but the volts were not in specs

Be sure the battery is good. If it doesn't spin the motor fast enough it will not fire.

Re: Yamaha 90 With No Spark

I will get ahold of the tools to check the voltage output of the stator and triggers and make sure the battery is fully charged. I am in the process of moving and it may be a couple of days before I can get it done.
